Reed Flute Cave

The Reed Flute Cave is located at the bank of Taohua River, 6 km (3.7 miles) away from downtown Guilin, Guangxi Province. It is said that the reeds growing around the mouth of the cave can be made into flutes, hence the name Reed Flute Cave. The cave is renowned for the varieties of stalactites, stalagmites, columns and lime-flowers which came into being about 700,000 years ago, eroded by underground water. In the 240-meter-deep cave, you will see lime stones resembling lions, waterfalls, dragons, towers, forests and palaces. In addition, there are many stone inscriptions in and around the cave, which can be traced back to the Tang (618 - 907), Song (960 - 1279), and Ming (1368 - 1644) Dynasties and the Period of Republic of China (1912 - 1937).
