Tashilhunpo Monastery

Tashilhunpo Monastery is located in the west of Shigatse City. Covering an area of 300,000 square meters (74 acres), it is the largest temple in Shigatse Area, and one of the four largest temples of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in China, along with the Ganden Temple, the Sera Temple and the Drepung Temple. Built in 1447, the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), Tashilhunpo Temple is famous for the splendid buildings and halls, such as the Dajing Hall, Lingta Hall, Han Temple and Qiangba Temple.
