Palkhor Monastery

Palkhor Monastery is located in the northeast of Gyantse County, about 100 kilometers (62.1 miles) east of Shigatse City. It plays a very special role in Tibetan Buddhism history because the three major sects of Tibetan Buddhism - the Gelug Sect, the Sakya Sect and the Bkav-gdam Sect coexist with each other harmoniously in the very same temple. Palkhor Monastery is also famous for the Palkhor Tower (namely Bodhi Tower) which is the main building of the temple. The nine-storey tower is 32 meters (105 feet) high, painted with 100,000 figures of Buddha, thus it is also called the 'Tower of 100,000 Buddha'.
