Ganden Temple

Located on the Wangbur Mountain in Dagza County, about 57 kilometers (35.4 miles) away from Lhasa City, Ganden Temple is one of the 'three largest temples in Lhasa', along with the Drepung Temple and Sera Temple. Built in 1409, the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), it is also the oldest temple among the six largest temples of Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in China. In the temple, there are many culture relics, including the Tibetan scroll paintings (Tangka), the jewelries and armors bestowed by Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), and the sutras written with gold powder.
