Yonghe Lama Temple

Located in the Dongcheng District, Yonghe Lama Palace is the largest temple of Tibetan Buddhism in Beijing City. It was constructed in the early Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), and was a family mansion of Prince Yongqin and later transformed into a lama temple in the reign of Emperor Qianlong. Emperor Yongzheng's body was kept in Yonghe Palace after his death and Emperor Qianlong was born here, so Yonghe Palace was considered a very auspicious place and was constructed according to style of the Forbidden City thanks to the two emperors.
