Hui Style Residence typically demonstrates Huizhou's geographic characteristics and local culture. They were multi-courtyard or at least a three-section compound, usually oriented south and north, and with water in front and mountains behind. Centering on an axis, the rooms were distributed symmetrically, with three rooms in a row (the middle is the hall, and the two aside are the living rooms). Besides, there is usually a courtyard in front of the hall used for light and air. All of the courtyards were connected, forming a vertical and separate living space for an entire family.
