Situated at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Yuhu Village's average temperature is usually 5 ºC (41 ºF) lower than that of the Lijiang Old Town. Yuhu Village has ever been the summer resort of the Mu Family who was the supreme ruler of Lijiang for generations, just as the Chengde Imperial Summer Resort in Beijing. Its name originated from the Yuhu Lake (jade lake) which was a man-made lake dug to store the clear water of the streams flowing from the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain by the Mu Family. The snowy mountain is reflected in the lake, which makes the water as clear as jade, hence its name.
