Drepung Temple

Located 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) away from the western suburban of Lhasa City, Drepung Temple is the one of the six largest temples of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in China. The white buildings of Drepung Temple lie against the East Valley Mountain (Gyephel-ou-Tse), which looks like a huge pile of rice at a distance, hence the name 'Drepung' (a pile of rice in Tibetan language).Together with the Ganden Monastery and Sera Temple, the Drepung Temple is also one of the 'three largest temples in Lhasa'.
