Located at the meeting place of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Henan Province, Yuncheng is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization, for there were human beings living here about 1,800,000 years ago. There are many historical sites, such as the Yongle Palace, a Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368) building which is famous for the huge mural, and the Pujiu Temple, in which there is the famous Yuanyang Tower - one of the four existing echo constructions along with the Echo Wall in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, the Baolunsi Tower in Henan and the stone stairs in Dafo Temple of Sichuan Province.
