As one of the four best-preserved ancient city walls in China, Pingyao City Wall has 6 gates - there is one in the north and south, while two in the east and west. Thus, the whole city wall is just like a tortoise, with the north and south gates as the head and tail, and the east and west gates as the four legs.

Known as 'the No.1 Compound in China', Wang's Compound is an irregularly-shaped castle -style residence group, with four gates in the north, south, east and west It mainly includes eastern courtyard, western courtyards and Xiaoyi Temple, coving an area of over 62 acres.

Being the south avenue of Pingyao Ancient City, Ming-Qing Street is one of the most attractive sites in the ancient city. It is also the main axis of the city which divides the city into two symmetrical parts.
