Yuanmingyuan

Located in Haidian District, next to the Summer Palace, the Yuanmingyuan (Old Summer Palace) was one of the most famous imperial gardens in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911). It covers an area of 350 hectares, comprising Yuanming Garden, Changchun Garden and Yichun Garden. The construction of Old Summer Palace has not only inherited the traditional Chinese gardening, but also adopted the western garden styles, so you can find the pavilions of the traditional Southern China style as well as the stone arch gate built in the western style. Unfortunately, the Old Summer Palace was damaged by western invaders at the end of the Qing Dynasty, so some of the constructions are only left with debris.
